News from K2.

30th April 2026 By Jon Donohoe

A great weekend training with the world leaders in Shotokan Karate straight from Japan. A wonderful opportunity to learn more about Karate and  immersing yourself into a weekend of Shotokan karate. I believe everyone had a great time and should come back to the Dojo fully inspired and motivated, ready to push on mentally and physically all be it a few uncomfortable joints and limbs. Comes with training and is really nothing to worry about ( No pain no Gain) it is often said.

Ludmila achieved a very good performance only one minute and twenty seconds from achieving her Shodan award, (Kata Only) well it just wasn’t to be this weekend, however the next visit to K2, dare I say it on the winter course should achieve her Shodan with Dave Nareen and Melissa all hoping to do their own high level of achievement VERY GOOD LUCK TO THEM ALL. Lots of hard work between now and then, at some point set your goals and expectations and reach out. At least two sessions a week with national courses also available to enhance their skills. A healthy training program never stands still must always push ourselves to as far as possible. As I am sure you are all aware Nidan’s now have to be assessed. There will be  no problems I.S.K.C. can and will arrange some guest instructors throughout the month’s ahead. I ultimately have the final say on the matter of who will grade or will not, some times this is a hard a lonely decision to make but the students are always at the heart of my decision making.

As for me the fight is on to get back to fitness as soon as I possibly can after knee surgery and return to my beloved Dojo and students. Obviously there will and has to be a change in how I go about training taking into account my age and body condition. However the Bushido is still running strong throughout my body and will push and push and push even more.

Let’s move on together 2026.

Jon.
